Description
In Verdant, the artist presents an immersive study of nature as both a sanctuary and an overwhelming force. The canvas is a sea of emerald, forest, and mint greens, applied with heavy, swirling impasto strokes that give the landscape a rhythmic, living pulse. The composition is divided into massive, sloping “waves” of earth, creating a sense of being deep within a valley or at the base of a great, green mountain. The tiny, dark silhouette of the creature is positioned at the very bottom right, standing before a glowing, lime-green portal or “cave of light.” In this work, the creature appears humbled by the sheer scale of the world around it. The contrast between the dark, solitary figure and the massive, textured hills explores the feeling of being a small part of a much larger, vibrant system. It is a meditation on finding one’s place within the wild, untamed growth of the internal and external worlds. “In the garden of the soul, we are never truly lost—just small enough to be protected by the leaves.”
