In The Celestial Beacon, the artist uses a tall, slender vertical canvas to depict a tower of light standing amidst a sea of clouds. What first appears to be a suspended line is actually the sharp, focused structure of a lighthouse, reaching high into a soft, watercolor-like expanse of lavender and rose. The central silhouette stands at the top, acting as the “keeper” of this ethereal light. The composition is grounded at the bottom by dark, tangled brushwork that represents the rough, rocky foundations of the earth. Three birds circle the beacon, suggesting that even in the vast heights of the atmosphere, there is a point of safety and direction.
